Giannis Antetokounmpo’s Basketball Career
Giannis Antetokounmpo grew up in Athens, Greece and was the middle child of 5 siblings. His entire family is very athletic with several of his brothers playing professional sports. Giannis began playing basketball with the youth teams of Filathlitikos in Greece. Before entering the NBA, he was a part of the Greek A2 league and shot an impressive 46 percent from the field and was selected to play in the Greek League All Star Game.
After turning 18, he was picked up by CAI Zaragoza, a team in the Spanish league. His contract began in 2013 and he signed a 4 year deal. However, he included an option for a buyout of his contract by any NBA or Euroleague team. Not surprisingly, he entered the NBA draft and was selected as the 15th overall pick by the Milwaukee Bucks that same year. He signed a rookie style contract which was only for a short period of time. In October of 2014, the Bucks exercised the option to extend his contract and this proved to be wise decision as he scored a career high 27 points and 15 rebounds against the Houston Rockets.
It is still very early on in the NBA career of Giannis Antetokounmpo so it is hard to say what type of player he is going to be in this league. What we do know is his Antetokounmpo's 40 inch vertical leap and overall length can help him become a great shot blocker and consistent scorer. Only time will tell if this happens.
